Paul is a young legacy wrestler trapped in a predatory endorsement deal with the pizza chain Little Nero's. He fights every fight like he can win, even though his family legacy is as tainted as Little Nero's sauce. Since he burst onto the scene, his career has been characterized by the occasional spark of potential that has burned out in short order each time. His agent, Cousin Jommy, had high hopes that walking the Pollo Road would help Paul put some much-needed polish on both his wrestling style and his understanding of himself. Whether or not that worked, he’s reached the end of the Road. He now seeks new challenges and opportunities.

EntranceThe house lights die. A video package of Paul Freedom's career highlights begins to play. At first, it focuses on Paul's early career, highlighting things like his ready smile, his eagerness to shake his opponents' hands, and the novelty cheetah print hairstyle he maintained at the beginning. The energetic guitar chords and strained vocals of Less Than Jake's "Help Save the Youth of America From Exploding" erupt from the PA.

"Sit down
Remind me how
This is the same old story
Of growing up and getting lost"

Soon enough, the tone shifts and the clips are covering ground all the way from his blood-soaked debut match to his challenge for the Pollo Mundial de Lucha Libre belt that proved to be Pollo Road's final match.

"Sit down
Remind me how
This is the same old story
Of growing up and getting lost"

As highlight clips continue to play, Paul bursts through the curtain, but quickly sputters to a stop on the entrance stage. His stillness is a sharp contrast to the flashy aerialism and vicious brawling playing out on the screen above him.

"And just outside I can hear the sound
Of the early morning street becoming way too loud"

Several awkward moments later, he closes his eyes and gives his head a quick shake. Having collected himself, he sprints down the ramp and slides in under the bottom rope. Once there, he is eager to offer his opponent a handshake.
Random Quote

“There once was an agent named Jommy/Whose brain waves were like a tsunami/Though his heart was large/To trust his young charge/Was harder than Genoa salami”

Random Fact

Little Nero's artisanish ultrathin crust is perfectly streamlined for maximal consumption. Consume with care.

"Help Save the Youth of America From Exploding" by Less Than Jake

Move #1

The drop toe hold. Paul busts this one out in defiance of those who criticize his scientific wrestling prowess!

Move #2

The bulldog. If Paul is lucky enough to get someone in a side headlock, chances are he's going to capitalize by running, jumping, or springboarding and hoping they fall down in the process!

Move #3

The snap suplex. It looks a lot like a vertical suplex that wilted!

Move #4

Mounted punches in the corner. The crowd is encouraged to count along!

Move #5

The schoolboy clutch. Hey, it could work!

Special Move #1

The Svoboda Special is a cartwheel or, ideally, a roundoff into a moonsault suicida over the top rope. This move has, against all odds, been used to win a match!

Special Move #2

Moonsault stuff. Paul does backflips for any way he can figure out to bust out one of these bad boys!

Special Move #3

The Paul Flip is executed against a cornered opponent when Paul takes a running start from the opposite corner, runs up his opponent's torso, and backflips off their face to land in a standing position. Noteworthy in that only the name needs work!

Finisher Setup Move

TBD

Basic Finisher

Basic Finisher Desc

Finisher Setup Description

Pretty much anything that leaves Paul's opponent on the mat and dazed will do, whether that's a body slam or a DDT!

Finisher Description

The Impressive Display of Agility is much like an imploding 450 degree splash, but is executed in a no-look style to be maximally impressive and lands with a knee rather than the torso. It's from the top turnbuckle, so you know it's got to be good!

Submission Finisher Description

A variant of the cavernaria that uses an inverted facelock instead of the traditional chinlock. This is more likely to result in a pinfall loss than a submission or knockout until Paul gets better at this stuff, so at its current peak it's more of a Svoboda Breather!

Finisher Description

In-Ring Personality

Paul is youthful, enthusiastic, and dynamic in the ring!
Paul will frequently engage in pointless gymnastics during matches. At best, this may lead him to cartwheel out of harm's way from time to time; at worst, it may cause him to handspring right into an attack!
While an ineligible wrestler in tag competition, Paul will relentlessly applaud his partner(s) and try to get the crowd to do the same. This sometimes leaves him distracted from what's going on in the ring!
If Paul does something he considers especially clever, he'll give the audience a knowing look and tap his forefinger against his temple a few times!
Paul frequently flashes double peace signs right before coming off the top no matter how many times he's told not to telegraph his dives!
Paul will always offer his opponents a handshake before and after the match and will never refuse an opponent’s handshake, no matter how blatantly it is a setup!
Paul does his best to fake respect for authority figures, and it often works. Paul doesn't need to fake respect for others on the roster. He acknowledges the talent and hard work it takes to make it as a combat sports competitor. Polite and charming, but somewhat naive, he has chosen to let his poetry and the wrestling ring be the dumping grounds for his negative emotions. He isn't one to break the rules, or even to push their limits, but, stipulations permitting, he is pragmatic to the point of ruthlessness and resourceful to the point of atrocity!
Paul has a lot of unfounded confidence but little regard for his health, leading him to impulsively make decisions that are likely to lead to defeat and/or injury. Paul has yet to figure out who he is as a person or as a wrestler, so almost everything he does is an attempt to follow in what he believes his father's footsteps to have been based on anecdotes and highlight reels. This means he is not only easy to manipulate, but his "style" is based around emulating high spots that he doesn't understand the greater context of!

In-Ring Tactics

Right at the midpoint between being a brawler who can fly or a flier who can brawl. Paul kicks like an ornery mule, bounces around like a tweaked out pinball, and has an instinctive tendency to be in the exact right spot at nearly the right time. Think what would happen if you added Tiger Mask to Mikey Whipwreck and then subtracted the lion’s share of the technical prowess. Despite the best efforts of those who've trained him, Paul's grappling skill, what one might call his "ability to wrestle," is mid at best. His time as a luchador has given him some insight into how to execute an effective flash pin, but his submission skills remain woeful.
To shake an attempt to grapple from behind, Paul will often hit a double mule kick into a somersault out of harm's way.
When thrown to the corner, Paul may try to salvage the situation by quickly leaping to the turnbuckle and coming off with a corkscrew flipping neckbreaker.
If all else fails, a headbutt is a great way to escape a grapple or otherwise seize the momentum!

Always Do

Accept the offer of a handshake!
Offer a handshake before and after a match!

Never Do

Win cleanly by submission!
